"What photography is all about? Capturing that split second; freezing that one moment in time. It really is that simple". Jan Pitt does not hide his innate 'Gronings' down to earth attitude. The essence of photography may be all about practice and an eye for detail, when it comes down to capturing his pictures Jan prefers to talk along the lines of a 'speciality occupation'.

Starting his career in photography in 1989 as a press photographer for regional daily and weekly newspapers, Jan eventually developed a dislike to its hectic existence, and changed direction in 1999. "Besides my work for the press, I started receiving more and more different types of assignments, which allowed me to express my vision on photography a lot more. Straying away from the ordinary became the norm for me. It did raise a few eyebrows with employers but they were always more than satisfied with the end results. That encouraged me to carry on in the direction I had chosen". Jan now works as a studio and architecture photographer as well as taking on commercial and freelance assignments.

As a member of the British Institute of Professional Photography (2000-2013), sharing experiences and new developments as well as generally raising professional photography to a higher level is important to Jan. "There is always something new to learn, my views on the subject are constantly changing".
